“I AM ERROR” is commonly cited as an example of poor translation, but is it?
According to Legends of Localization, in the game’s original Japanese release, the character says, “My name is Error.”
So it appears that his name really was intended to be Error.
Another character in the game is named Bagu, a mistranslation of Bug from the Famicom Disk release.
It’s possible that the two were intentionally named Error and Bug by the game’s designers.
